Roses

Zonta’s roses for 2010 are sold out!
Please watch this space for next year’s choices!

Officially named the Zonta International Rose in 1999, the yellow rose is the Zonta flower. The Zonta Club of Lapeer Area sells Zonta International Roses developed by Harkness Roses in England. The Zonta Rose is consistent in every climate, making it a good choice for our colder area. It has medium to large double blooms, bright green glossy foliage, peachy golden yellow color that holds to the very end with a moderate fruity fragrance and great disease resistance.

The Zonta Club of Lapeer Area has arranged with Perkins Yard & Garden in Lapeer to purchase bare root plants from the US distributor, Weeks Roses. Perkins prepares the plants, and has offered programs to the club on caring for the roses.

The Zonta rose sale proceeds support service projects including scholarships for women aged 21 and over, Comfort Pillows for mastectomy patients, LACADA and professional assistance to sexual assault victims through SANE/SART Services, leadership opportunities for young women and services that eliminate barriers for women including the Family Literacy Center.

In 2000,  the Zonta Club of Lapeer Area began adding some other varieties of roses to complement the Zonta rose in your gardens.
